Jennifer Ewing is a lifelong artist who has always worked in some aspect of art as an art teacher, an illustrator, and muralist. She began her theme “Spirit Boats” in 2005 as a response to a major life passage, the death of her father. She uses the boat as a symbol of transformation. Employing sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, and installations to describe an inner journey she offers an invitation for others to travel within her boats. In Jan. 2011, she was the Artist in Residence at the deYoung Museum exhibiting Spirit Boat Directions and in Feb 2014 she was the guest artist at the Living Shaman Museum in San Francisco's Presidio exhibiting Healing Spirit Boats. She held boat making workshops in both places, sharing her sculptural techniques. In Jan. 2015, her Spirit Boat Timeline went on exhibition @ Gallery 190, part of the UCSF Memory and Aging Center.
Ewing has exhibited her work widely in various Bay Area venues over the past twenty years and is a longtime participant in San Francisco's ArtSpan Open Studios. She is a museum educator at The Contemporary Jewish Museum and senior teaching artist at SF Fine Arts Museums where she works with adult and children’s programs, designs projects, and leads tours of exhibitions. Ewing has also worked with Alzheimer’s programs at both museums, helping early stage patients find meaning and comfort through engaging with art.
Since 1989, Ewing has run her mural business, Ewing and Germano, with husband, Leo Germano, that specializes in fine art services for commercial and residential clients. Their business began in response to visiting Italian fresco cycles that ignited the desire to paint big!
In 2012, she launched two additional business for organizational learning: How to Navigate Change for team building, and Making Your Mark Now, offering drawing programs in partnership with Leo Germano. As an artist and entrepreneur, she is a bridge to help people incorporate art and right brain thinking into their daily lives. Ewing has lived and worked in an historic SF Mission District artist community, Developing Environments, since 1986.
