Privacy Policy

www.thecjm.org (the “Site”) is owned and operated by The Contemporary Jewish Museum. By using the Site, you agree to the collection and use of your information by us in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Site.

Changes to the Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to change the terms of this Privacy Policy. Since any changes will be posted on this page, we encourage you to check this page regularly. Your continued use of the Site following any changes to this Privacy Policy will constitute your acceptance of such changes.

Information We Collect

We may collect “personally identifiable information” from you, such as your name, postal address, email address, phone number and fax number. We will collect personally identifiable information from you when you actively give us the information, such as when you become a member, renew your membership, make a donation, sign up for updates, contests or promotions, complete a survey, or otherwise communicate with the Site. When you become a member, renew your membership or make a donation, we will also request you to provide financial information, such as a credit card account number. You have the option to create a user name and password to sign-in to the Site.

Tell-a-Friend

If you elect to use our referral tool for informing a friend about the Site, we will request from you certain personally identifiable information about your friend, such as your friend’s name and email address. We will automatically send your friend a one-time email containing the information you request to be sent. We store this information for the sole purpose of sending this one-time email. Your friend may contact us at info@thecjm.org to request the removal of this information from our database.

We may also collect demographic information that you provide to us via surveys or otherwise, such as your zip code, age, gender, or income level, as well as information about your religious affiliation, personal interests, product usage and preferences. We use your demographic information to improve the Site and the services we offer. We may also share such information in the aggregate form with third parties to procure grant funding and for internal purposes.

We may collect “non-personally identifiable information,” such as your IP address and browsing patterns. We collect such information from you by “passive” means, such as through the use of cookies and other tracking technologies. Many Internet services deliver cookies to people who visit their websites in order to make their services more convenient and personalized. A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user’s computer tied to information about the user, such as interactions the user had with the Site or offers on the website. We may use session ID cookies to confirm that users are logged in. These cookies terminate once the user closes the browser. We may also use a persistent cookie that stores your information to make it easier for you to log in when you come back to the Site. Not for Children

This Site is not intended for use by children. We will not knowingly collect any personally identifiable information submitted by visitors to the Site who are under the age of 13.

How We Use Your Information

We will use your personally identifiable information to process membership and donation requests, to send updates, to respond to your requests, to notify winners and award prizes, for customer service, and for general internal business purposes. The user name and password you create during registration is used to sign-in to the Site.

We will use your financial information to bill you and process your membership and donation requests. By becoming a member, renewing your membership or making a donation, you consent to our providing your financial information to our service providers and to such third parties as we determine is necessary to process the transactions. These third parties may include the credit card companies and banking institutions used to process the transactions.

Unless you tell us not to, we may use your personally identifiable information to contact you with information we think you would be interested in. If you do not want to receive this information, indicate that we may not do so at the point where you give us your personally identifiable information. If you change your mind later, email us at  info@thecjm.org. Email messages will also provide you with an opportunity to opt-out of receiving this information. Please note that changes to your preferences may not be effective immediately.

From time to time we may also share your name, postal address and email address with certain select third parties whose products or services we think might be of interest to you. You always have the opportunity to request that your information no longer be shared with these third parties for direct marketing purposes by emailing us at info@thecjm.org. Please note that your removal from these communications will only apply to the sharing of your information in the future and not to information that may have already been shared with third parties, as provided in this Privacy Policy. You may need to contact third parties that may contact you directly to request not to receive future communications.

We may use third party contractors to help us operate our business and the Site or administer activities on our behalf, such as authorization of credit card transactions, and may share your information with these contractors for those limited purposes.

Except for those third parties specified herein, we will not share your personally identifiable information with third parties, unless you allow us to.

We use non-personally identifiable information for internal purposes and to help us interact with visitors to the Site. We may also share non-personally identifiable information in the aggregate form with third parties to illustrate trends and patterns.

The Site may make available to its users blogs, chat rooms, forums, message/discussion boards and other community functions, such as features that allow users to post and share photographs and videos. Your use of any such community functions is at your own risk.
