Embark on a unique learning opportunity in partnership with New Lehrhaus this winter. Contemporary art can offer us limitless opportunities to connect with the complex world we live in. But how does one start to uncover the many possible meanings behind an artwork? In this course, discover how art can help us interpret the world by exploring artworks by Jewish artists today who are looking to the many aspects of Jewish culture, identity, and community to explore connection.
This two-session course is led by Ron Glait, The CJM’s Adult Learning Program Manager, and is offered in partnership with New Lehrhaus. Sessions will be held online via Zoom.

In this online lecture, we will contextualize contemporary art within the discipline of art history and learn some tools to help view and engage with contemporary Jewish art.
Using the tools we learned in the first session, we will explore a wide range of ideas from artists of diverse identities and generations presented in the CJM exhibition the California Jewish Open. Together, we will try and answer the question: How are artists looking to the many aspects of Jewish culture, identity, and community to foster, reimagine, hold, or discover connection?
Ron Glait is the Adult Learning Program Manager and Senior Museum Technology Manager at The Contemporary Jewish Museum. He holds a Master of Education in Visual Literacy and Museum Studies. His academic research and work as a museum educator are centered around the power of storytelling through art to promote deeper understanding, self-discovery, and spark curiosity, all to encourage learners to apply these insights in their own journeys.
