ADMISSION: Free for families
The CJM invites you and your family to a fun-filled community day celebrating student bookmakers! See student-made books from the twelfth annual Ezra Jack Keats Bookmaking Project, make your own book art at our pop-up studio, drop by the San Francisco Public Library Bookmobile, and read with dogs from the San Francisco SPCA’s Puppy Dog Tales Reading Program. This program will also include readings from participating students and classes.
Plus, view brilliant neon art and learn about light in Jewish culture at our current exhibitions First Light: Rituals of Glass and Neon Art and Radiant Practices: Illuminating Jewish Traditions, and give back by donating new or gently used books to the Children’s Book Project.
Admission to this in-person program is free for adults accompanied by a youth age 18 or younger. Visitors age 18 and younger always get in free.
The Ezra Jack Keats Bookmaking Project promotes the art and craft of original bookmaking in the classroom, and invites SFUSD students in grades K–12 to design, write, and assemble their own books. At the end of the project, participating students, families, and educators will be invited to The CJM for a celebration of books, where student books will be exhibited and participants will be honored!
The CJM strives for a welcoming environment for all of our visitors. In addition to ample space for wheelchairs and a friendly environment for service animals, sign language interpretation (ASL) can be scheduled for all programs with at least two weeks notice.
FM assistive listening devices (ALDs) for sound enhancement are available for all talks and tours. Please note that we would like to maintain this as a scent-free environment, and encourage visitors to refrain from using scented products out of respect for visitors with allergies or chemical sensitivities. For additional accommodation requests, please contact access@thecjm.org or call 415.655.7856.
