2023 EZRA JACK KEATS BOOKMAKING PROJECT WINNERS

The Contemporary Jewish Museum (The CJM), the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD), and the San Francisco Public Library (SFPL) are pleased to announce the winners of the eleventh annual Ezra Jack Keats Bookmaking Project! The project promotes the art and craft of bookmaking in the classroom, inviting students in grades K–12 in SFUSD to write, illustrate, and assemble their own books.

This year, we were thrilled to receive over eighty book submissions from twenty-four schools across SFUSD. We would like to thank our panel of expert judges, including Rachelle Resnick, Supervisor Emerita, SFUSD Library Services; Jen Woo, Family Engagement Coordinator, SFPL; Mareiwa Miller, Curatorial Assistant, The CJM; Candace Goodwin, Singer/Songwriter and Educator; and Emma Purves, Artist and Teen Art Connect (TAC) alumna. You can learn more about this year’s judges here. The project also would not have been possible without the support of SFUSD teacher librarians Karen Mooney of Buena Vista Horace Mann (BVHM) and Pamela Gee of SF Public Montessori.

All participating students, families, and teachers are invited to The CJM for a Bookmaking Celebration and Family Day on Sunday, March 19, 2023, from 11am–2pm. All book submissions will be on display in The Museum lobby; winners and participants should visit the lobby for prizes and recognition.
